Codes and Conventions of an opening scene

Codes
Technical Codes

This includes camera techniques, framing, depth of field, mise en scene, editing, lighting and sound.

Symbolic Codes

This refers to objects, setting, body language, clothing and colour.

Written Codes

This is in the form of headlines, captions, speech bubbles and language style.

Convection
Conventions are accepted ways of communicating codes as a particular message.

At the start of one of the Saw films it shows you straight away that the film will be a gory horror by whats happening. It shows you what type of things will be happening further on in the film. This Saw is the fourth one and it carries on staright away from the third one so people recognise the character straight away.
